GENERAL NOTES
FOR
BASIC CARE AND ADJUSTMENT
OF THE
TRADITIONAL ANNIVERSARY "400 DAY" CLOCK
|
This is a straightforward method for the basic care, adjustment and regulation of these clocks. There will be thousands of Anniversary Clocks that are sitting on shelves gathering dust and not running. This is sad as generally they are rather decorative and basically keep good time. My notes will give
some guidance to the owner. My method will however assist the owners to do some of the basic procedures which are essential if these clocks are to be reliable year after year. The name of course reminds us that they were designed to run happily for about a year on one winding of the spring - this is often not the case due to age or lack of servicing but that was the original idea in the mind of the clockmakers. Some of these Anniversary clocks are quite important Horological artefacts and the older models should be regarded as well worth regular professional attention. My notes are given as a step-by-step method that I use myself when dealing with these clocks for my customers. The tasks are not complex but will assist both the ordinary householder and clock owner as well as the Home Enthusiast who is keen to look after personal clocks and who seeks more information.
