What is BioThane®?

BioThane® is the brand name of all coated webbing products made by BioThane Coated Webbing Corp. The material is a polyester webbing with a TPU or PVC coating, depending on the product. Silvabel Equestrian Goods uses Beta®, a “coating class” of BioThane on most of our tack.

Why is it Better?

BioThane is a better option than leather or nylon because it is more durable, waterproof, weldable, and easier to maintain. Gone are the days of weather destroyed and moldy tack. Instead, save your time with minimal cleaning needed!

How does BioThane® weather?

Under normal use, BioThane will long outlast leather and nylon horse tack. It won’t melt in the heat of summer or become stiff in the cold of winter. Your tack will remain flexible and durable throughout all four seasons. With normal use, BioThane will not get sticky or tacky unless exposed to certain chemicals such as DEET. And when your tack gets wet, there is no need to worry about a smell, BioThane is stink-proof!

Can BioThane hurt horses?

As long as your tack is the proper size, it should never hurt your horse. Silvabel Equestrian Goods offers a variety of sizes so your horse (or pony) will always have the right fit. BioThane will even break on the specific weak points of the tack.

Will the color fade?

Years will pass before you notice, but in general, the deeper the shade of the hue, the longer it will last. The opaque colors tend to hold color significantly longer than fluorescents.

Is BioThane® Made in the USA?

Yes! BioThane is manufactured in North Ridgeville, Ohio and Silvabel Equestrian Goods are produced in the eastern part of the United States.
